== SOLD OUT == (for now..)
It is getting colder and as our worms live outdoors it gets too cold to harvest them (they crawl deep into their bedding and are impossible to get out). But they are busy doing what worms do and we are looking forward to loads of baby worms in the springtime!
So we hope to see you back in March!Did you know worms make an excellent compost? You probably do as you are visiting our website!
Our Eisenia Worm Mix of mainly European Nightcrawlers and some Red Wrigglers are the real experts in turning organic waste into nice rich compost. They can eat half their body weight every day!
Each species of worm has their own way of dealing with organic matter and we believe that a mix is the best way to achieve the best vermicompost.
500 Composting Worms is a nice amount for a small household or to top up your worm bin!
Please note: Multiple quantities of worms will be packed together. If you need us to pack your worms separately, please include a note with your order.
|Why we count worms?||We count worms as we find this the friendliest way of handling our worms. Some farmers sell worms by the weight but this is causing the worms a lot of stress and might even harm them. To weigh the worms you need to completely separate them from their bedding. This causes the worms to bunch up in a sticky slimy ball that can suffocate the worms! The other downside of selling by the weight is that you as a customer never know what you're paying for, are you paying for a kilo of just worms or a kilo of worms with their bedding. With us, you order 500 worm, you'll get 500 worms (and a few extra for good measure!).|
|What size worms do I get?||We hand pick our worms from our bulk beds. The worms is these beds have different sizes from young to adults. We always try to send out mostly adult or almost adult worms so ready to breed and multiply (and of course devour your waste)!|
|How many worms do I need?||"How much waste do you have?" is really the question we need to ask. We recommend weighing your kitchen scraps and any other green waste you intend to feed to the worms with for at least one week. After this you can calculate the average waste per day. 1,000 adult composting worms can eat about 125gr of waste every day, so it's quite easy to figure out how many worms will eat your garbage. But don't worry if you have more waste than worms, just feed them less to start with. Your worms will multiply! In ideal situations you worm population will grow very rapidly, which will allow you to feed them more!|
|What worm species do you sell?||We sell an Eisenia Worm Mix, a mix of mainly Eisenia Hortensis (European Nightcrawlers) and some Eisenia Andrei, Eisenia Fetida (Red Wrigglers). Eisenia fetida (older spelling: foetida), known under various common names such as redworm, brandling worm, panfish worm, trout worm, tiger worm, red wiggler worm, red californian earth worm. The European nightcrawler is also called Eisenia hortensis, Dendrobaena veneta or Dutch nightcrawler. Each species of worm has their own way of dealing with organic matter and we believe that a mix is the best way to achieve the best vermicompost.|
